Evaluation

The materials used in my cross-platform media campaign are linked  through the use of similar images of known international footballers. I also use similar fonts in all platforms and images, which gives all platforms a similar feel and gives the campaign good cohesion. The campaign creates cohesion through the house style. All three platforms have a dominant image of a international star and all use the same colours (The Russian flag) this makes it easy for people to identify our campaign. The campaign also uses the same font and typography for the campaign name '2018 FIFA World Cup' this makes the platforms easy for the consumer to identify. The campaigns message is reinforced on all platforms by using the same informational content on all platforms to make sure fans know all the relevant information. Also the constant use of the world's best international on all platforms show consumers the talent on show the World Cup. My multi-platform campaign release date would...

Feedback & evaluation

Image
I applied a colour scheme that tied to Russia (the host of the 2018 FIFA World Cup) using the red, white and blue throughout all three media campaigns, as this would show they are connected. I also used international stars like Ronaldo throughout the campaign to grab the attention of browsers. This proved effective as seen on feedback from people who had seen my campaign. Feedback  As seen on this pie chart 85.7% of people who seen or read the DPS said that it was effective in grabbing their attention, which means that it was a success as the hard part for the campaign was getting the target audiences attention. The DPS was also a success as 85.7% found that it made them aware of the upcoming World Cup. This means the I gave them the necessary information and also got their attention, which is what the aim for the DPS was.  75% of people who took the questionnaire said that they enjoyed the content provided, this means I provided necessary cont...

Advertising representations

Image
Aim of the advert is to sell. The purpose is to tell the audience the ketchup is made from their grown tomatoes. The image works with the words as it shows chopped tomatoes

Trump election media reaction

Image
The independent are representing trump as a one man empire by photoshopping his face on the empire state building. The independent are mainly centre although lean left a little, this shows that Trumps reign could be rather successful The sun represent trump as not serious and as a joke, by cartooning him and having "america you can be my ex-wife" it shows they think he won't last long. The use of "D'oh" shows that the world think it is a huge mistake, although this is from a left perspective

Stereotyping

Richard Dyer wrote in 'The Role Of Stereotypes" about how the complexity and diversity of a group or individual is reduced to a few limited characteristics Stereotypes exaggerate difference  The media may not create a stereotype, but do reinforce them Stereotyping is a way of imposing order on diversity by oversimplifying traits  Stereotypes are a way of quickly conveying info about a character Seeing certain assumptions may help construct audience perception of the world  Identities can be constructed and communicated by stereotypes  Those with power stereotype the less powerful

Male gaze (Laura Mulvey)

Image
Theorist Laura Mulvey argued that the audience view women from the standpoint from the vantage of a heterosexual male This is called 'Male Gaze' It suggests that females are objectified in the media and are there for the viewing pleasure of the camera The model (Beyonce) performance is sexualized as she has her hands behind her head pushing her hair up Her dress wear shows a lot of skin and her short cop top even show a little underboss and only has her undies on the bottom half

theorists (mediation)

Stuart Hall said that representation is the production of meaning through language (a spoken language or a visual language) He suggested that reality is mediated through language  This means the truth is filtered through the perspective of the person making the media They choose what to show us, so they can manipulate the 'facts' based on social/personal/political agendas The media therefore do not present the pure truth - they present a 'mediated' version of the truth Examples : Smoking, Sky sports, British politics, Boxing PPVs

Anchorage

Anchorage  is when things are constructed to give things a  certain look or feel, usually two media types together e.g image and text

Polysemy

Image
Roland Barthes said texts were either open or closed He suggested none were fully one or other (as there is always room for interpretation), however some texts attempt to restrict their meaning more than others Some texts encourage Polysemy (multiple meanings) and are open texts Some discourage polysemy and are closed texts (one meaning and one way to intemperate). Like advertisements This image is a closed text as it uses words 'Leadership' and 'National Interest' in reference to the Theresa May and uses the colour blue, which is associated with the conservative party. Meanwhile the image shows Theresa standing tall and emoting with her hands. The image also shows people listening intently to her words. It also uses anchorage as it links the image of Theresa May to the text and makes it easier for the audience to interpret

Audience decoding

Image
Stuart Hall' model of mass communication suggested that there are a number of ways an audience will read (or decode) a message/meaning found in text. Preferred (Accepts the message) Negotiated (Accept with some bits and disagree with other) Oppositional (Rejecting the message and does not agree) Abhorrent (Missed the point and interpreted wrong. in addition to Hall's original theory) This media could be considered as preferred as some men see this as where they want to be and aspire to look this good.  It could be considered as negotiated as some men want to look like this but might no necessarily agree with headlines like " New drugs for extra endurance"  It could be oppositional as some men don't want to look like this and don't agree with striving for perfection or "how to make a million on social media" as it can be considered a fantasy.

Hypodermic needle

It suggests that the media injects a message into us and this shapes our responses. (This is generally considered outdated  because it suggests we all have the same interests and think the same way) Audiences can be passive (they comply with the message sent) or active (filtering content/resisting messages/reinterpreting)

Intertextuality

It is media that references other media All media products are influenced by others Some may directly refer to each other  Intertextuality is our ability to uncover and recognize how media references itself  We create meaning by recognizing this (or not if we aren't aware of the original source) Bowling For Soup - 1985 There is a George Michael reference and possibly Ali G. The George Michael reference could be to show the singer as a cool guy in the video

semiotic theories

Image
We actively create meaning by decoding signs  Semiology is the science of these signs  Ferdinand de Saussure suggested SIGNS are a combination of the SIGNIFIER (e.g. the image/gesture/word) and the SIGNIFIED (e.g. what we assume it means once we have interpreted it) Denotation  The literal meaning of the sign (e.g. a man gives a woman a diamond ring) Connotation The meaning attached to the sign (e.g. the ring connotes love, engagement, wealth) Symbol A sign that stands for something - it must be culturally learned (e.g. our understanding of the significance of a man getting a women a diamond ring) In this poster it shows Harry Potter and his fans standing tall and staring into the camera, this connotes that they're being rebellious which links with the word rebellion on the poster. It also tells the audience who the main character is as he is in the centre and the other main characters in the front of the shot.  The light in th...

Pre production report

Pre-Production is  work done on a film, before full-scale production begins. The first stage of pre-production is development. This stage starts off with the ideas for the film itself and if the idea is serviceable, after this You would address the  legal  issues you would face with music and/or  sounds used in the film also,  the rights to books/plays if  they're  in your film. The last part of this  stage  is that the screenplay is written.  After this stage they then start the preparation for the shoot, this involves auditioning actors and finding suitable crew, scouting locations  suitable  for the script and getting all the equipment required for the film. After this the crew and cast are hired and locations are selected and booked to make sure that  they'll  be available on shooting days. Also all required sets are built before shooting days, so everything goes smoothly and is prepared on shooti...

Passive and active viewing (Uses and gratifications)

Audiences can be passive (they comply with the message sent) or active (filtering content/resisting messages/reinterpreting) The uses and gratifications model suggests audiences are much more active than the hypodermic needle model would suggest It suggests that an audience chooses media for their own specific needs and desires Personal relationships Social interaction (e.g. something to talk about with others) Surveillance Educational purposes or to solve problems (e.g. news) Personal identity  Forming opinions, understanding ones self, influencing behaviors  Diversion Entertainment, escape, habit, passing time

Challenging genres.

Subgenres - Specific categories that fall within a wider genre (e.g. zombie film)  Hybrid Genres - a mix of several genres, combining codes & conventions  Genre Subversion - Purposely not fulfilling/changing convention Genre Pastiche - Is when you copy a genre, and mimic it Genre Parody - A spoof of a genre for comedy purposes (e.g. Scary Movie) Hot Fuzz - Action Comedy
