DPS (with evaluation)

Image
On this double page spread I use the colours green, white and black as that represents the American Football team (Philadelphia Eagles) that Josh 'plays' for. These colours will resonate with fans and they will know instantly what team the article is referring to. The use of direct mode of address shows that the model is connecting with the audience and this is also supported by the use of casual clothing to try and humanise him self to the audience. The use of his name in the title tells the audience who its about straight away and will grab their attention, and as this is a star in the sports world it will sell easily. I use these particular fonts as they are modern, but simple. This gave the double page spread a fresh and cool feel, yet was complicated and was easy for readers to navigate, which is essential with magazines that are print. The casual clothing shows that he is connecting with the audience and that he is normal like the everyday man. Also taking away t...

Front cover (with Evaluation)

Image
This is my final front cover. The reason I went with a grey and gold colour scheme is because these colours are very popular in American Football and with this in mind I feel this would attract more people as it connects to the sports genre. I also feel the colour scheme gives the magazine a modern look and could attract people that are casual sports fans. The use of the sports language “Bullet arm” directly connects to the sport American Football. This will instantly connect with fans as it shows the cover star is good in his field as the language shows that. I used these particular fonts, as I feel they are modern and suit what I was aiming for when making a print sports magazine. I also feel they are quite simple, which is what I wanted as I want the dominant image,  to stand out more. The dominant image will be the main attraction for people passing by the magazine as it features a 'sporting star' and when people see a sporting star they will stop and look at what...

Magazine stages before final outcome

Image
For my magazine cover I had already decided my layout so I placed my title in the upper centre and decide that I was going to work around it. I also placed the barcode in the bottom left as that is where it is on some other magazines. I had also already decided on a colour that I felt would apply and attract sports fans At this point in the production I had added all my essential information, including issue number and price, which is important to any magazine. My selling line and boost lets the target audience know that the purpose of the magazine is inform them. All that was left to add to grab the attention of potential buyers was the star off the magazine (Final front cover seen in different blog post)

Secondary content

The secondary content I have used include a barcode for my front cover. I also used custom fonts as generic didn't give my magazine the desired effect. Sources: Barcode - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcode Fonts -  https://www.dafont.com/ Specific fonts used: ChunkFiveEx - https://www.dafont.com/search.php?q=ChunkFiveEx Apple Garamond - https://www.dafont.com/search.php?q=Apple+Garamond Sports Jersey - https://www.dafont.com/sports-jersey.font I chose these fonts as I feel they will attract a sports audience. When using secondary content you have to be aware of copyright infringements, I was aware of these infringements and make sure that all my secondary was used legally.

Front cover attempt 1 and why it isn't suitable

Image
This was my first attempt at a front for my sports magazine. I thought that the colours were bland and that the font used wasn't good enough to attract people walking past in the shops. It was also lacking detail that makes a good magazine front cover and makes it hard to see whether it is a sports magazine or not. This meant that I didn't follow the codes and conventions of a sports magazine as i should. This made me realise my mistakes and helped me make a better front cover..

Storyboard

Image
The storyboard is one of the first things I started on after coming up with my idea. this is a storyboard of my opening scenes. This storyboard is vital in pre-production as it allows me to see whether my concept will be able to physically work. It also allows me to spot any early mistakes in the script and be able to amend them before shooting day. It also allows me to see whether the camera angles will work together and give me the desired effect.

Music reference

Image
I completed this music reference sheet as it is vital for the production. It is done so people can see who made the music or what the song out the film was made.

Risk assessment

Image
I completed this risk assessment form prior to filming scenes in the gym. The form is vital as they help to create awareness of hazards and risk for cast and crew. It also identify who specifically could be at risk on set. The reason doing this prior is is important is it is a major help in preventing illness or injuries. The form is also so that I could meet legal requirement where applicable.

Front cover & DPS photoshoot plan

For my front cover and DPS, I intend to have a class mate wear cricket gear, while he is wearing this he will stand in a cricket stance. I'm doing this as it will attract sports fans and particularly cricket fans. I'm doing this also because my article will be about cricket. It will also include other sports like Football, American football and Tennis. This is because it will appeal to a wider sports audience and will make the magazine more entertaining and desirable. After further consideration I decided that my model would instead hold an American Football and wear and American Football hat. The magazines features other sports so it still gets the attention of a wider football fan. My model will also be wearing casual clothing. This is my attempt to connect with the audience and show that this sporting star is just like you and me. I feel that it will also make the audience more comfortable with the star. On the front cover my model will be using indirect address whil...

Pre production (costume & props)

Props: The props I used in the film are gym equipment, such as, treadmill, dumbbells, and the gym setting. I use these props as it is related to the sports film genre. These props will help the audience understand that it is a sports film. All the props I needed for this were at the college gym

Location scouting

Image
For my location scouting I needed to find the perfect place to represent the boxing gym in my short. The boxing gym is very important as it has been a staple for a lot of films in the sports and in particular fighting genre of film. I also had to consider the lighting of the location and the availability of the college gym. It was the perfect location also as it had all the props I needed for the required scenes, which made it an easy choice for my location. I got permission to use the location from a lecturer in the sports department.

Pre production (Narrative)

Working title - Unified logline - After losing a fight he was a heavy favorite the protagonist (a boxer, who was previously unified champ) has to prove he is committed to boxing, He is in training for his upcoming fight, and it shows his determination and his preparation, which he lacked previously Key characters - Bobby "The problem" Pool (Tom)                            Mick Lovato (Mitchell)                            Journalist (Josh)                                                                                                                     ...

Unit 10 - Pre production (genre)

Image
Genre - The genre I aim to do is the sports genre, this is because I watch a lot of sports films and feel I can use the codes and conventions effectively when doing my own production and utilize props and costume needed. Films I intend to take inspiration from the rocky franchise and other boxing movies, that use the codes and conventions of the sports.
